ICD Posterior cerebral artery stroke (PCA Stroke)

Jod

Member
hello Coders,

I need some help coding a diagnosis for posterior cerebral artery stroke. Is it ok to give this the diagnosis of 434.91 or should this type of stroke be coded differently.

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

This is the exact code you should use for posterior cerebral artery stroke: 434.91.
434.9__ Cerebral artery occlusion, unspecified
434.91 ---- Cerebral artery occlusion, unspecified, with cerebral infarction

A cerebral infarction is a type of ischemic stroke
An ischemic stroke is 434.91 a well.

Thank you Joanne!! I also use 434.91 when the doctor writes stroke or cva rather than using 436. Is this correct as well?

Thanks.
